Submitted by Stephanie Jacques
Louise Robinson Cahill, visiting Oz to Oz scholar and director of vocational education and engagement, will present "21st Century Skills Education and Training for Industry and Employment" at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in 4061 College of Business Building.
According to Robinson Cahill, global trends show significant numbers of unskilled workers emerging over the next decade. Furthermore, research highlights the impact of rapid technological change that causes a need for reskilling and training in new skills to support economic sustainability. The challenge facing public education providers is to identify and develop outreach and learner support and well-being approaches to adapt in order to support our communities and meet changing industry skills needs.
In this presentation, Robinson Cahill will outline the factors contributing to skills gaps such as increasingly complex work environment, impacts of technology, the necessity of changing careers and re-skilling and global change and how those factors are disrupting 21st-century employment patterns. She will also share some of her observations from her U.S. research and compare it to the Australian context.
This seminar is sponsored by Fulbright Australia, Oz to Oz Australian Initiative, Office of International Programs,
