Advisor Forum presents March Charlie Award
The K-State Advisor Forum has selected Kaela Urquhart, pre-health and life sciences advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences, as the recipient of the March Charlie Award.
Urquhart was nominated by her peers for the support she provides to the advising community and the dedication she shows to her students.
"Kaela gives 110% and her students benefit greatly from her assistance," said one of Urquhart's nominators. "As a pre-health advisor, she meets with students interested in applying for med school or physician assistant school, no matter their degree. She is the lead faculty/staff advisor for multiple pre-health organizations and helps manage the Pre-Health Ambassadors for the College of Arts and Sciences. Kaela not only meets with students to help them enroll, but she also writes them letters of reference, gives constructive feedback on their applications and personal statements, provides one-on-one mock interviews, and supports them in any way she is able."
The nomination indicated that students have only the nicest things to say about Urquhart and her attitude is always positive. She creates a special relationship with her students and shares parts of their lives that they may not share with another advisor.
Urquhart also dedicates much of her time to helping the advising community. She has served on the Winter Advising Institute committee multiple years and volunteered to be one of the leadership co-chairs for Advisor Forum. She did an amazing job running the meetings and has extended her time in this position due to her successor leaving the university. All of this Urquhart has done while also taking classes, doing research and writing a dissertation.
The Advisor Forum committee thanks Urquhart for the work she has done for students, staff and faculty alike and congratulates her on this award.
