Zhang named chair of technical committee for national engineering society
Bill Zhang, associate professor in the GE Johnson Department of Architectural Engineering and Construction Science at Kansas State University, has been appointed chair of the American Society of Civil Engineering/Structural Engineering Institute technical committee on cold-formed steel members.
The committee disseminates and interprets information on the behavior and design of structural steel members, cold-formed to shape from flat materials. The group is also tasked to stimulate research and the publication of technical papers in this field.
Zhang, the first person from K-State to hold this position, is currently co-editing a design handbook on connections between cold-formed steel members and different construction materials for an American Society of Civil Engineering special project of which he serves as a chapter lead on connections between cold-formed steel and hot-rolled steel members.
K-State is one of the few universities that offers a course in cold-form steel design, ARE 725 Cold-Formed Steel Design, which Zhang teaches.
