The Office of International Programs' International Student and Scholar Services and Special Programs/Sponsored Students units support the internationalization efforts at Kansas State University. The Special Programs/Sponsored Students office serves as a liaison between the university and international sponsors and their students by helping students satisfy the requirements of their scholarships. Special Programs/Sponsored Students assists K-State departments by providing information, letters and student advocacy. K-State now has 14 international sponsors serving 150 students from 19 countries.
Special Programs/Sponsored Students also visits nondegree students from a variety of countries on special scholarship funding. These students volunteer in our community and give country presentations to inform our students about life in other parts of the world.
Additionally, the Special Programs/Sponsored Students serves departments desiring to host international short programs of small groups. It assisted with logistical and budgetary planning for several high-profile programs such as the Brazil Science Mobility Program, Fulbright-Pakistan orientation and Fulbright early arrival orientation. Additionally, International Student and Scholar Services welcomes countless U.S. students, faculty, staff and community members in the exploration of other cultures and the celebration of international festivities. Staff members provide immigration advice for students, scholars and campus partners. Additionally, International Student and Scholar Services provides a wide variety of programs for both the campus and the Manhattan community. International students and scholars have continued to study and do research during COVID-19. Travel restrictions and immigration guidance from the government has provided extra challenges that we have had to help students through. We have remained busy and have moved all of our advising, programs and events to virtual platforms. A signature event we host, for example, International Coffee Hour, though virtual, has still been seeing great attendance numbers and engagement.
