Advisor Forum presents December Charlie Award
The K-State Advisor Forum announces Rob Pettay, instructor and advising coordinator in the kinesiology department, as the recipient of the December Charlie Award.
Pettay was nominated for this award by Craig Harms, department head in kinesiology, for the support that he provides to the students in the department.
As the lead advisor in the kinesiology department, Pettay coordinates all parts of advising including curriculum updates, new student orientation, and career exploration.
"In my experience, Dr. Pettay does not simply do his job, but he truly cares that students have the opportunity and tools needed to succeed," Harms said. "Over the years, I have seen him identify and personally advise students who have the drive, intelligence, and commitment necessary for success in science or professional school — some of whom had never been told or dreamed that they could achieve so high a calling."
Along with advancing undergraduate enrollment in the kinesiology department, Pettay has also served in various leadership positions within the state advising association, KAAN. He is also an active presenter for not only the state advising conference, but the region and national conferences as well. Presentations he has done include a wide variety of topics from advisor morale to motivational interviewing in advising.
The K-State Advisor Forum thanks Pettay for the work he has done for students and his fellow advisors and congratulates him on this award.
