According to an analysis by Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge, the journal Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Diseases is one of the most highly cited journals in immunology. Its current record includes 932 papers cited a total of 6,226 times between Jan. 1, 2002, and Oct. 31, 2012.
The journal's editor-in-chief is Kansas State University's Stephen Higgs, Peine professor of biosecurity, professor of diagnostic medicine and pathobiology, and director of the university's Biosecurity Research Institute.
"To be honest, as an editor, my goal is to publish the very best articles in the field," Higgs said. "I'm not obsessed with the citation index and impact factors, and that is the feeling of several friends who editor other journals. These come as a reward for publishing good articles but are not the driving force for selection."
