College of Education professor to deliver democracy lectures in Sarajevo
Thomas S. Vontz, professor of curriculum and instruction, has been invited by the American Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina to deliver a series of lectures on constitutional democracy, human rights and public policy. Vontz will deliver the lectures March 20–26 in the nation’s capital, Sarajevo.
The lectures are a part of the embassy’s multilevel capacity-building program. Vontz will address university faculty, elementary and high school teachers and student leaders throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. This will be his third trip there since 1998.
“I was a small part of an initial team that provided guidance and assistance for the development of civic education programs in Bosnia and have admired their work ever since,” Vontz said. “Sometimes we take political ideas for granted in the United States. It is refreshing to spend time with eager and talented colleagues who are engaged in the same work, and I look forward to renewing old friendships and making new ones."
