Legislative Update
This week is the ninth week of the Kansas legislative session. Last week only a few committee meetings were scheduled as all debate and deliberations on bills took place in the House and Senate chambers. All bills, not exempt, were either passed out of the House or Senate depending on the chamber where the bill originated. Bills were either sent back to a committee or killed. Any bill not passed in the 2021 Kansas legislative session remains alive until the 2022 session.
This week the House and Senate will not return to the Capitol until Wednesday, March 10.
On March 10, the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Committees will hold hearings on the bills containing the governor’s budget for FY 20, 21 and 22.
On Thursday, March 11, the House Appropriations Committee will hold a hearing on the proviso directing the universities to return tuition dollars for any day no class was held or for classes held virtually. President Myers along with the chancellor and presidents of the other state universities will testify.
The Kansas Legislature will provide virtual access to committee meetings and floor action throughout the 2021 legislative session. Links to access the meetings can be found at kslegislature.org/li/.
