Regional UPCEA leadership award renamed for Global Campus dean emeritus
The Central Region of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association, or UPCEA, has renamed its annual leadership award for Global Campus Dean Emeritus Sue Maes as a tribute to her service to the organization and nearly 40 years of active membership.
Maes received various prestigious awards from the association, including the International Leadership Award in 2013, the Julius M. Nolte Award for Extraordinary Leadership in 2011 and in 1997 the regional leadership award that will now bear her name. She also gave her time in service to the organization, serving as vice president in 1996, president-elect in 1997 and president of the association in 1998, in addition to dozens of committee chairs and other leadership positions over the years.
"I am gratified and honored that my colleagues place my name on the UPCEA Central Region's leadership award," Maes said. "Growing leaders has always been at the forefront of my work as a continuing education professional."
Maes retired as dean of Global Campus in 2017 after 10 years on the job, capping a university career that lasted more than 40 years focused on increasing access to adult education and collaborative partnerships.
