Ten years of K-State 2025

Dear Colleagues, 

Ten years ago in September 2011, President Schulz and Provost Mason launched the K-State 2025 Visionary Plan after an exciting and inclusive planning process involving more than 500 students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends. That fall, they also began the annual K-State 2025 fall visits with colleges and other major units. For 10 years, these visits have continued through leadership transitions and even virtually last year as we grappled with the pandemic. Last week, we held our first visit of the year with K-State Olathe and look forward to continuing these visits over the next few months.

We have always looked forward to these visits as a place to share and celebrate the progress of the university, colleges and departments toward our university and unit strategic goals. They also provide time for you to ask questions and share with us what is on your mind. These visits are also a way we demonstrate our commitment and understanding of the importance of strategic planning and alignment across our university.

The K-State 2025 fall visit schedule is below.

  • Oct. 7; 8-9 a.m., College of Agriculture/KSRE, hybrid: Town Hall, Leadership Studies Building.

This fall we will be wrapping up K-State 2025 and setting the stage for a new president to launch a 2035 planning process. We will be talking about the very real progress made over the past 10 years on our K-State 2025 plans — progress that was made during a time of constrained resources; explosive growth, then decline, in enrollment; and a worldwide pandemic.

The State of the University will be held on Friday, Sept. 17, and we will highlight some of the results of our work toward K-State 2025 goals and priorities. In December, we will publish a 10-year report on our K-State 2025 progress, as we did when we reached the five-year milestone. The deans and vice presidents are also preparing their 10-year progress reports and will be sharing them during our fall visits. These reports together will lay a foundation upon which to build the next university strategic plan.

K-State 2025 defined us as a modern, student-centered land-grant university valuing and integrating education, research and engagement on behalf of our communities, state, nation and the world. For 10 years, K-Staters have done amazing work together, making real our commitment to this vision and our goal to become a Top 50 public research university. The journey has been exhilarating always, and at times, very challenging. We have adjusted plans along the way. But we always kept moving forward — that's the K-State way.
