Matt Stoffregen to present Mathematics Department Colloquium Lecture

Submitted by Reta McDermott

Matt Stoffregen, assistant professor of math at Michigan State University, will present the colloquium "Homology Cobordism, Surgeries and Heegaard Floer Homology" as part of the Mathematics Department Colloquium Lecture series from 2:30-3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in 122 Cardwell Hall.

The abstract for the lecture: Involutive Heegaard Floer homology has recently seen a lot of use in low-dimensional topology, getting at information not visible to its non-equivariant relatives. In this talk, we discuss a surgery formula for involutive Floer homology and as an application, construct many interesting classes in the 3D homology cobordism group. This is joint work with Kristen Hendricks, Jen Hom and Ian Zemke.
