Submitted by Teaching and Learning Center
The next Teaching and Learning Center Professional Development event, "How Do I Engage in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning? A Discussion With Teaching Scholars and Their Experiences," will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, via Zoom.
Presenters include Jason Bergtold, professor of agricultural economics; Andrew Barkley, professor of agricultural economics; Kimberly Williams, professor of horticulture and natural resources; and Lisa Rubin, associate professor of special education, counseling and student affairs.
The scholarship of teaching and learning, or SoTL, is a combination of teaching, learning, and research with the goal of inquiring about meaningful questions, approaches and pedagogies centered around student learning and engagement. New and experienced faculty may desire to meaningfully engage in SoTL but may not know how to start. How does one begin to pursue and engage in SoTL? This presentation will provide perspectives from three experienced faculty who have successfully engaged in SoTL at K-State: Barkley, Williams and Rubin. Bergtold will provide additional insight and facilitate. Attendees will gain insights on how to engage in the SoTL, obtain guidance on how to start SoTL activities, and gain knowledge about successful SoTL endeavors.
