Inaugural Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol
On Wednesday, April 3, the Kansas Board of Regents is set to host 80 undergraduate student researchers — 10 each selected by committees, respectively, at Kansas State University, Fort Hayes State University, Emporia State University, Pittsburg State University, Wichita State University, Washburn University, University of Kansas and the KU Medical Center — for the inaugural Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol.
Modeled on an ongoing and highly successful graduate student research day in Topeka, which brings many of the state's leading graduate student researchers into dialogue with Kansas lawmakers, staff and the public, undergraduate students will display their research posters and interact with all-comers from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda.
Representing K-State will be: Samuel Kenney, economics; Wendy Lai, architecture, planning and design; Graciela Orozco, biology and biological systems engineering; Brianne Pierce, microbiology and premedicine; Alyssa Rippe, animal sciences; Kevin Robben, physics and chemistry; Angela Schnee, geography and Chapman Center for Rural Studies; Stephanie Skinner, animal sciences; Tucker Wilson, English and Spanish; and Caleb Wurth, grain science.
Assistant dean Jim Hohenbary and vice provost Steve Dandaneau will participate as chauffeurs and chaperones for what has been a long-anticipated event twice previously postponed due to inclement conditions. Kansas State University's 10 student representatives are thus to be congratulated for their admirable patience as well as for their outstanding research, while K-State students and chaperones alike wish to acknowledge the faculty whose own patient mentoring made these shining examples of undergraduate research at K-State possible in the first place.
