Advisor Forum presents December Charlie Award
The K-State Advisor Forum announces Angélique Courbou, teaching assistant professor in the modern languages department, has been selected for the December Charlie Award.
Courbou was nominated for this award by Melinda Cro because of the impact she has made on both students and faculty in the department.
Cro writes, "Dr. Courbou is a dedicated and skilled advisor who takes time to listen and learn about each student, matching them to opportunities that will enhance their professional preparation, and checks in on them regularly throughout the year as they achieve milestones. I met with several students over the summer who were taking courses with us in modern languages and they were so impressed that Dr. Courbou had remembered the days they were taking their MCATs and reached out to wish them well or had contacted them to see how an internship was going. There are a large number of these anecdotes because Dr. Courbou cares about her students and advisees and strives to provide them a meaningful and consistent point of contact throughout their academic career in our unit to support their success and learning long-term."
Courbou also has an impact on advising and recruiting in the modern languages department. Cro adds, "Dr. Courbou has also taken the time to research effective strategies for advising and is designing ways to implement those strategies into our departmental approach to advising, including creating co-curricular and immersive opportunities for students to develop a sense of community and connection with the unit and the faculty. She has been instrumental in training faculty advisors, sharing best practices and developing materials to help guide both advisees and advisors through program pathways and potential opportunities for dual degrees or double majors.
"In short, Dr. Courbou is vital to our outreach in modern languages and supports our students and advisors in meaningful ways that make a powerful impact."
The K-State Advisor Forum thanks Courbou for the work she has done for students and advisors and congratulates her on this award.
