Professor of philosophy, educational policy to present lecture on charter schools, educational justice tomorrow
Visiting professor Harry Brighouse from the University of Wisconsin-Madison is presenting "High Commitment Charter Schools and Principles of Educational Justice" at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in 203 Dickens.
Brighouse considers the ethical and policy implications of evidence that high commitment charter schools, including schools in the Knowledge is Power Program, both improve achievement on standardized tests, but also harm the educational prospects of non-attending disadvantaged children. He explores various possible justifications proceeding with the charter school agenda, and identifies inadequacies in standard philosophical perspectives on educational justice that emerge when applied to the high commitment charter schools.
