K-State Theatre presents two free short play performances Friday night
Submitted by Jerry Jay Cranford
The practice in directing, intermediate acting and scene design courses present their combined project of two short plays by Rachel Carnes at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the Purple Masque Stage in West Memorial Stadium. This event is free.
"EGG IN SPOON" is directed by Jillian Sommerauer and is the story of four generations of mothers as they gather for a shower to celebrate the newest member to their club. The cast consists of Lindsey Edwards, Ingrid Patterson, J Garrison and Morgan Boyer working with designers Julia Wilson and Jayden Gittle.
"SH*T TRAIN" is directed by Jackson Berland and follows a new employee through the most awkward first meeting with their boss. The cast consists of Bernice Poulter and Ryan Teer with designers Shauna Wietzki and Marvy Whittaker.
Students are supervised through professional production protocols. This allows practical experience in taking a script from analysis to initial design meetings to casting through rehearsals and culminating in the final performance. The process helps students hone their artistic visions through a deeper understanding of the collaborative nature necessary for a professional career. The final performance is done with minimal props and pulled scenic elements without constructing the finalized design. Faculty supporting the artists are scenic designer and artist Kathy Voecks, lighting and sound designer James Davis, and acting/directing members Joelle Arp-Dunham and Jerry Jay Cranford.
