Attend Wefald's Butterfly Lane dedication
Submitted by Office of the President
Kansas State University will recognize Jon Wefald, former president from 1986 to 2009, by renaming and dedicating Butterfly Lane to Wefald's Butterfly Lane on Friday, Oct. 28.
Brief remarks will start at 3 p.m. by Richard Linton, president, and Andrew Wefald, associate professor in the Staley School of Leadership and son of Wefald. The dedication will take place to the south of Bluemont Hall at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Butterfly Lane.
On Sept. 15, the Kansas Board of Regents approved the university's intention to rename the street in honor of Wefald.
Wefald named the street "Butterfly Lane" during his administration due to the thousands of monarch butterflies that land in the landscaping outside of the President's Residence during their fall migration to Mexico.
In case of inclement weather, a private event will be held for the Wefald family.
The entire K-State community is invited to attend this special occasion.
