The President's Committee on Religion, Spirituality and Nonreligious Diversity presents the global observance information for Nov. 28-Dec. 4.
Nov. 28, Baha’i — Begins in the early hours of the morning.
Commemorates the passing of Abdu'l-Baha in 1921 in Haifa. Abdu'l-Baha was the eldest son of Baha'u'llah, the prophet-founder of the Baha'i faith, and named the leader of the Baha'i community in his father's will.
Nov. 30 — Christian — St. Andrew’s Day 'Là Naomh Anndrais' in Scottish Gaelic
Christian observance of the coming of Christianity to the area now known as Scotland. St. Andrew is regarded as the Patron Saint of Scotland and Nov. the 30 is generally accepted as the day of St. Andrew’s martyrdom in 60 A.D. The Scottish flag symbolizes the X, the specific cross, believed used to crucify St. Andrew. For further information visit scotland.org/.
Nov. 27/8-Dec. 24, Advent Christian
A tradition of waiting and expectation for the birth of Jesus, celebrated on Christmas Day. Advent is observed in a variety of ways within the Christian tradition, including the practice of specific liturgies, fasting and rejoicing.
Western Christian Advent continues from the 27th — four Sundays before Christmas — until Christmas eve. Traditionally, advent begins on the Sunday nearest to the Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle, Nov. 30.
Eastern Orthodox Advent, Nov. 28 until Jan. 6, 2023, on the Gregorian calendar.
