Kansas Legislature Update week six

Last week in the Kansas Legislature, Sarah Sexton Bowser, Center for Sorghum Improvement, provided an informational briefing to the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee on Feb. 7.
Also last week, the Legislature's internal deadlines for introducing legislation passed. Feb. 8 was the last day for an individual legislator to introduce a bill. Feb. 10 was the last day for non-exempt committees to introduce a bill.
This week, the House Agriculture and Natural Recourses Committee will meet on Monday, Feb. 13. Christopher Redmond, assistant agronomist at K-State, will brief the committee on the Kansas Weather and Kansas Mesonet.
On Tuesday, Feb. 14, the House Agriculture and Natural Resource Committee will be briefed on the Kansas Healthy Food Initiatives. Providing the briefing will be Rial Carver, program leader of the Rural Grocery Initiative at K-State, and Erica Blair, program manager for both the Rural Grocery Initiative and Kansas Healthy Food Initiative, Kansas State University.
Higher Education Budget Briefings will take place this week in the House Higher Education Budget Committee and the Senate Ways and Means Higher Education Subcommittee.
K-State President Richard Linton will present testimony at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, before the Senate Ways and Means Higher Education Subcommittee. Linton will present testimony at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 16 before the House Higher Education Budget Committee.
