Design and facilitate an activity for GROW/EXCITE summer workshops June 7-9

Submitted by Stephanie Wacker

KAWSE, or the K-State Office for the Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering, will host the 24th annual GROW and 21st annual EXCITE summer workshops on June 7-9.

GROW and EXCITE are outreach programs for middle and high school students. They are designed to encourage and support girls' interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, disciplines. Students of all genders are welcome to participate.

  • GROW: Open to students finishing grades 5, 6 or 7 in May 2023.
  • EXCITE: Open to students finishing grades 8, 9, 10 or 11 in May 2023.

Registration is now open for the workshops. Register by April 28 to receive the early-bird prices or to apply for a scholarship. For more information, visit the GROW or EXCITE websites.

K-State faculty, staff and students are invited to design and facilitate a hands-on activity for the workshops. There is no set theme for the summer workshops. The goal is to provide students with hands-on experiences in a broad range of STEM disciplines and introduce them to career options in STEM. For more information about facilitating at the workshops and for activity proposal templates, visit the website. The KAWSE office is happy to provide letters of support to grant agencies for those who collaborate with us. Activity proposals are due by May 17.

KAWSE is looking for summer mentors for the GROW and EXCITE workshops. Read more about the position or apply online. Mentor training is June 6. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled.

Any questions about the GROW/EXCITE summer workshop may be directed to Stephanie Wacker, KAWSE Program coordinator, at swacker@k-state.edu.
