Steven and Susan Maxwell to perform at International Tuba and Euphonium Conference

Steven Maxwell, professor of tuba and euphonium, and Susan Maxwell, teaching associate professor of bassoon, have been invited to perform a full recital of works at the 2023 International Tuba and Euphonium Conference, which will be held on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, in June.
The recital will feature the world premiere of two new works. The first work, "After Manhattan," was written by the award-winning composer Gwyneth Walker. Walker created a suite of duets for tuba and bassoon after her time visiting Kansas State University in spring 2022. The piece was written for and dedicated to the Maxwells.
The second work, "Sonata for Tuba and Piano," was composed by K-State graduate Michael Meier. The work was written in 2017 originally for clarinet and piano. At the request of the performers, the work was reorchestrated in summer 2019.
Steven Maxwell teaches applied tuba at K-State. He is an active clinician, adjudicator and soloist throughout the United States and Europe. He has performed at numerous prestigious conferences as well as with notable ensembles including the Chautauqua Festival Orchestra, Wichita Grand Opera Orchestra, Central Iowa Symphony, and the Kansas City Puccini Festival Orchestra.
Susan Maxwell teaches applied bassoon at K-State. In addition, she has an extensive performing career as a soloist as well as performance engagements with numerous ensembles including the Kansas City Symphony, Kansa City Lyric Opera, Wichita Symphony, Tulsa Philharmonic, Lake Shore Symphony in Chicago, and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico.
