NRES secondary major welcomes new governing board members
Following an election this spring, the natural resources and environmental sciences, or NRES, secondary major welcomes Colby Moorberg, agronomy; Ganga Hettiarachchi, agronomy; Shawn Hutchinson, geography and geospatial sciences; and Elizabeth Dodd, English, to its governing board. All faculty members will serve three-year terms beginning July 2023 and ending June 2026. Hutchinson was also re-elected by the board to continue as director.
Outgoing board members who have completed their terms of service include David Haukos, biology, and Arnaud Temme, geography and geospatial sciences. The NRES board thanks these faculty members for volunteering their valuable time and expertise in service to the secondary major and its students.
NRES was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents in 1992 and was the first interdisciplinary program established at Kansas State University. Nearly 900 students from eight colleges and more than 40 primary majors have earned the secondary major and are using their expertise in a diverse array of career fields in natural resource management and sustainability.
Board members have a unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues who have research interests and to positively shape the future of a successful interdisciplinary program designed to help students make significant contributions to environmental science, sustainability and stewardship of natural resources.
