NRES awards graduate fellowship for fall 2023
Harsimran Singh Sodhi, doctoral student in the geography and geospatial sciences department, has been awarded a graduate fellowship for the fall 2023 semester by the natural resources and environmental sciences, or NRES, secondary major.
The NRES Graduate Fellowship program recognizes students with exceptional teaching and research achievements who seek additional experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research mentoring.
"The long-standing mission of the NRES secondary major is to provide undergraduates with a comprehensive interdisciplinary experience in environmental science, sustainability science and natural resource management," said Shawn Hutchinson, professor of geography and geospatial sciences and director of the NRES secondary major. "On behalf of our governing board, comprised of faculty from six departments across three colleges, I'm pleased to welcome Harsimran to our team of research mentors who pass on their passion for interdisciplinary and collaborative environmental problem-solving to our students."
Fellows receive an award of $1,500 for mentoring research conducted by small multidisciplinary teams of senior undergraduates enrolled in the BAE/DAS/GENAG 582 NRES capstone class. Recipients are also eligible to apply for a $500 NRES Travel Award during the current academic year.
Fellowship applications for the spring 2024 semester are now being accepted and will be due no later than Dec. 1. Doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers in any discipline conducting research in the general domains of natural resource management, environmental sciences, human-environment interactions or sustainability science are encouraged to apply.
