New DAIR office: Greater synergy, better services and closer collaborations
As a critical component of K-State's effort in accelerating our focus on creating a data-informed university culture, Provost Charles Taber recently announced the renaming of the former Office of Institutional Research and Assessment to the Office of Data, Assessment and Institutional Research, or DAIR, and associated expanded responsibilities. To support this transition, DAIR has established a new vision for the office and identified several immediate and intermediate priorities.
Vision for expanded data responsibilities in DAIR: Continue to transform the culture of using data to inform planning and decisions across the university through expanding partnerships and outreach efforts, providing enhanced user services, unifying and managing institutional data, and strengthening data governance structures and practices.
Priority areas:
- Build the new DAIR team by welcoming staff from the Division of Information Technology, or IT, to DAIR, and fill vacant positions based on immediate and intermediate needs.
- Implement the student module in the new data warehouse; and as needed, work with the Division of Financial Services to design and implement the financial module.
- Reimagine and redeploy data governance structure and approaches.
- Continue to strengthen collaborations with Division of IT units.
- Draft and develop K-State Data Policy.
- Enhance training, communication and web presentation capacities of DAIR.
All team members at DAIR are excited to welcome several IT staff to join the office and look forward to working with faculty and staff across the university to further improve the use of our data assets and support the implementation of K-State's NextGen strategic plan and other institutional and departmental goals.
