Two students receive Great Plains IDEA excellence awards
Submitted by Great Plains IDEA
Two Great Plains Interactive Distance Education, or Great Plains IDEA, students have each been awarded a $1,000 Student Excellence Award to be applied toward the degrees they are earning from Kansas State University.
Andrew Isola, Hickory, North Carolina, will use his award toward his master's degree in community development. The community development program is housed in the landscape architecture and regional & community planning department in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design.
Shannon Spencer, Topeka, will use her award to complete her master's degree in agricultural education and communications. The agricultural education and communications program is a part of the communication and agricultural education department in the College of Agriculture.
The Great Plains IDEA Cabinet grants the awards following a review of students' academic and professional goals. Isola and Spencer are two of 10 students to receive the scholarships this year, which were awarded on July 1.
To qualify, students need to be attaining a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or certificate in a Great Plains IDEA degree program from a Great Plains IDEA member university. Kansas State University is the home university for Isola and Spencer's degrees, though coursework could come from any of the eight universities collaborating in their specific program.
Nineteen accredited universities are members of Great Plains IDEA, a solution to quality online degrees since 2000. In various combinations, universities together offer nine human sciences and nine agriculture programs online.
