Center of Excellence for Food Safety Research in Child Nutrition Programs wins research poster competition
Faculty and staff members from the Center of Excellence for Food Safety Research in Child Nutrition Programs in the department of hospitality management and dietetics presented at the School Nutrition Association's 67th annual national conference, July 13-17, in Kansas City, Mo.
Faculty members Kevin Sauer, registered dietitian; Kevin R. Roberts; Jeannie Sneed, registered dietitian; and Junehee Kwon, registered dietitian, presented four research posters as part of this year's Child Nutrition Showcase. One of the posters, "Restroom Hand-washing Facilities in Proximity to School Cafeterias," was selected as the winner in the research division. The posters can be found on the center's website.
In addition to the poster presentation, Sauer presented an educational session in partnership with Cheryl Johnson from the Kansas State Department of Education on the alliance between Kansas State University and the state agency. Center staff members also hosted a booth on USDA Lane on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to promote current research and to reach out to school food service professionals from across the country. During the three-day event, the booth had more than 1,300 visitors. Also attending the conference was Kerri Cole, project coordinator, and Megan Norman, undergraduate research scholar.
