K-State's Concert Choir and In-A-Chord travel to KC for recruitment tour
In the last few weeks, two of K-State Choir's top ensembles both traveled to the Kansas City area for recruitment tours. The choirs visited various high schools, performing for and presenting to prospective students about everything K-State's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance has to offer.
First, In-A-Chord A capella, a student-led organization, traveled to Kansas City to perform at four different high schools. On Sept. 29, they visited Rockhurst High School, Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Olathe East High School and Shawnee Mission East High School. In-A-Chord also held a free outdoor concert the following evening in Lenexa for more than 200 locals.
Most recently, K-State's Concert Choir and Joshua Oppenheim, director of choral studies, traveled to Kansas City from Oct. 5-6 to tour high schools in the Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas, areas. They demonstrated their learning process, gave advice on college life, and performed advanced repertoire for the students. Over the two-day span, they were able to visit Staley High School, Liberty North High School, Truman High School, Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Olathe North High School, Olathe South High School and Blue Valley Northwest High School.
This is the first year that K-State Choirs has put such an emphasis on touring, and after the recent success of visiting 10 different schools and performing for more than 400 students, they plan to make it a semiannual occurrence.
