Advisor Forum presents November Charlie Award
The K-State Advisor Forum announces Teresa Douthit, academic advisor and professor of animal sciences and industry, has been selected for the November Charlie Award.
Douthit was nominated for the award for her passion in the classroom and advising students.
His first nominator wrote, "Teresa is passionate about student success and though she excels in the classroom, her students especially value her advising. Her students have often commented on the fact she makes them feel important. She is not only seen by students and colleagues as someone who is knowledgeable about advising and student success, but she really takes the time to get to know her advisees and work with them on individual paths that will be most successful for them. Teresa's advising scores reflect this in consistently being above departmental, college, and university averages. In her own department as well as the College of Agriculture, Teresa is seen as a leader in both teaching and advising. Her colleagues often look to her for her guidance in advising."
Mike Day, department head for animal sciences and industry, added: "Dr. Douthit's contributions that are described above exemplify and emphasize the benefits that our students receive from having an advisor that is an expert in course, career and activity opportunities relative to the science of animals and towards helping them find and pursue their passion."
Joann Kouba, associate professor, wrote, "Dr. Douthit considers herself as much more than simply a source of information for each student. She works very hard to develop ongoing relationships that will help students define their academic, career and life goals. As one of our female faculty advisors, Dr. Douthit is often assigned students that may need some extra help navigating their college experience, and she is also assigned to work with our advisees who are student athletes. Even though she works with a diverse advisee population, her strong annual advisor scores would indicate that she is appreciated and well-liked by her advisees!"
The program's teaching coordinator, Cassie Jones, expressed the importance of Douthit's role with students, "Teresa embodies the best of faculty-based advising. She interacts with students directly in the classroom in her equine and nutrition courses, and these interactions inform the subsequent conversations she has with students regarding course selection, co-curricular activities, and career goals. Her advisees get tailored, individual advice to help them meet degree requirements and be the strongest candidate for their next step after K-State."
The K-State Advisor Forum thanks Douthit for the work she has done and congratulates her on this award.
