Education and engineering faculty present at KATE conference
Faculty with the College of Education and the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering presented at the Kansas Association of Teachers of English conference Nov. 3-4 in Wichita. The theme was "Grow Through What You Go Through."
Suzanne Porath, associate professor of curriculum and instruction, presented "Well-being for Educators." Ambyr Rios, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction, and Hande Küçük McGinty, assistant professor of computer science, presented "I'll be back: Cultivating ELA Teachers' Artificial Intelligence Literacy and Innovation." Rachael Cox, doctoral student in education, presented "Co-Teaching 101: Benefits and Barriers to Doing Less and Getting More."
In addition to presenting, Rios was sworn in as a member of the association's executive board, where she joined fellow board members Porath and Eileen Wertzberger, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction, who serves as treasurer. Wertzberger provided information about receiving continuing education credits through K-State for attending the conference and an upcoming study abroad program for educators in London this summer.
Several teacher candidates from the College of Education's secondary English education program also attended the conference.
The association is the state affiliation of the National Council of Teachers of English, which supports the teaching of English language arts in K-12 schools.
