Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance
Joelle Ré Arp-Dunham, teaching assistant professor of theatre, has published her article "Active Analysis for Beginning Acting Students: A Class Blueprint" in the international Stanislavski Studies Journal.
It outlines the practice as research methodology informed by cognitive science to scaffold exercises that promote bell hooks' calls for focus on the "self-actualization" of students and helps create Konstantin Stanislavsky's desired "actor-creators."
Arp-Dunham is a director, actor, intimacy choreographer and educator in both theatre and film. In addition to directing more than 50 productions and teaching countless acting classes, she was the founder and producing artistic director of the professional nonprofit Circle Ensemble Theatre Company in Athens, Georgia from 2010-1019.
