K-State Salina selected for Higher Ed Learning Circles program to help inspire computer education in underrepresented groups
Kansas State University Salina Aerospace and Technology Campus has been selected to participate in the 2023-2024 Higher Ed Learning Circles program through the National Center for Women and Technology, or NCWIT. This program broadens participation in computer majors or minors from females and underrepresented groups to complete bachelor’s or master's degrees.
According to NCWIT, as of 2020, only 20% of all computer and information sciences domestic bachelor's degree recipients have been women. As a part of Learning Circle, K-State Salina faculty and staff will have the opportunity to receive training and support for leading and implementing NCWIT's strategies within a given department, guidance on developing and implementing strategic goals utilizing research-based approaches, access to peers and experts to address recruitment and retention challenges, and advice on analyzing enrollment and graduation data. This project also connects individuals with the same goals interested in recruiting and retaining a more diverse undergraduate student body.
K-State Salina hopes Learning Circle will help participants identify goals and action items that align with the campus and university strategic plans, including offering a greater sense of belonging.
