Cathleen Stotts and Rachel Mui recognized as Professional Staff and Professor of the Week
Cathleen Stotts, human resources liaison in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering, and Rachel Mui, assistant professor of management, were recognized as the Professional Staff and Professor of the Week respectively, at the Jan. 6 men's home basketball game. Faculty Senate, the Office of the President, K-State Athletics and the Division of Communications and Marketing wish to recognize their contributions to K-State.
Stotts has an exemplary record of service and leadership to the faculty, staff and students in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering and the university. Stotts has built a great relationship with many at Human Resources and is always one of the first names that comes to mind when gathering information from HR liaisons. She is a key resource and mentor to others in her college and is always willing to help when someone is not available, whether it is part of her job or not.
Stotts has also served on TEA's board of directors, and she currently serves as TEA's secretary. She has held leadership positions at TEA for at least 10 years and has been essential to the improvements in efficiency TEA realized after Human Resources reduced support. This has resulted in TEA becoming budget neutral for the first time, which in turn ensures the stability of the organization to serve the K-State community in perpetuity.
Mui has done an excellent job teaching in the classroom and has also worked tirelessly with numerous students outside of class. She has been instrumental in developing several key courses for the College of Business Administration. Specifically, she led the redesign of the Business Innovation and the Entrepreneurial Mindset course, which is generally recommended to be the first course that students take upon entry into the college.
In terms of student feedback, Mui receives rave reviews from her students across the board, and students find her to be engaging, knowledgeable, conscientious and helpful outside the classroom. In the Entrepreneurial Consulting course, she works directly with students who are performing short-term consulting projects with local businesses during the summer. Mui has built exceptional relationships with her students, which starts them on a positive path to academic success in the college.
