Universal time and leave system update: Review of current processes finished

Submitted by Ethan Erickson

Dear colleagues:

I'm excited to share that the review of the current time and leave processes across the university, which began last August, is now complete. This review has led to the development of recommendations to support a new universal system, which is now moving forward.

The review detailed the current time and leave practices and the various systems in place across the university and identified system needs and areas for improvement. The work aligns with our Next-Gen K-State strategic plan, which challenges us to establish a culture of continuous improvement and excellence across our business operations. This includes standardizing and modernizing our processes in human resources and the systems that support our work. See the report.

To support the university's efforts moving forward, we will:

  • Continue to take steps to consolidate and standardize time and leave systems, including selecting a universitywide system and supporting system implementation.
  • Set clear expectations for time and leave roles and responsibilities across all levels of the university.
  • Establish clear and standardized time and leave policies and procedures, and regularly train staff on them, including required supervisory training, training for all staff and cross-training.
  • Leverage change management to effectively engage key staff members, communicate the need for and impact of change, and support accountability for adopting changes.
  • Increase collaboration between HR and department HR liaisons to improve accountability and support.

The next steps include identifying and purchasing a new universal time and leave system and then working with HR and key stakeholders to launch an implementation plan. We'll continue to update you as the project progresses. Visit the Time and Leave webpage for more information.

I again want to thank the project team and everyone who's been involved in this important work over the last few months. I'm excited about the progress that has been made and am looking forward to when our new universal time and leave system is ready to roll!
