'Something to Chew On' podcast features biosecurity expert Simon McKirdy
The Sunderland Foundation Innovation Lab podcast "Something to Chew On" is back in 2024 with "Beyond Borders: Advancing Biosecurity Through Global Partnerships." This episode features guest biosecurity expert Simon McKirdy of the Harry Butler Institute at Murdoch University, along with hosts Maureen Olewnik and Brian McCornack.
"Something to Chew On" explores the complexity and nuance of food systems and debates the best ways for humans to proceed forward. A Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Life Sciences Award recipient, McKirdy's exploration of biosecurity system resiliency, coupled with his ongoing collaboration with K-State's Biosecurity Research Institute and department of plant pathology, helps to establish policies and future frameworks for international coordination and global food security.
In this episode, McKirdy emphasizes the critical need for international partnerships, innovative approaches in business and technology, and the integration of multidisciplinary methods for ensuring food security and forging novel pathways to combat pests and pathogens.
