Registration is open for April virtual Water Wednesday event
Submitted by Kansas Water Institute
The Kansas Water Institute will host a Water Wednesday event from 2-3:30 p.m. April 3. This meeting will be virtual to allow for greater participation and engagement. All K-State faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.
Water Wednesdays encourage interdisciplinary groups to consider relevant issues pertaining to water research through discussion and networking. This month, participants will focus on ways to support Kansas farmers and the agricultural industry as they move toward a more sustainable water future.
For those interested in attending, registration for the virtual event is available online at this link.
"During our previous Water Wednesday discussions, our interdisciplinary groups have created very innovative research proposals in a short amount of time," said Susan Metzger, director of the Kansas Water Institute. "This month, we will invite colleagues from all colleges and units to develop research proposals that bring new and interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable food and agricultural production."
The institute will open a request for proposals focused on this issue.
The event will include an introduction to the K-State-Testing Ag Performance Solutions, or TAPS, program, an innovative, "citizen-science" approach that combines interactive learning with interdisciplinary research. The TAPS program invites Kansas producers to join a farm-management competition where they will make real-time decisions that will be implemented in replicated plots on the same field. The competition is structured to enable direct comparison and evaluation of each team’s production, efficiency and economic outcomes.
This RFP will support interdisciplinary research to be overlaid and/or integrated into the K-State TAPS platform. Successful proposals will leverage data from the competition to address growing concerns and challenges facing irrigated agriculture in western Kansas.
The RFP will be described in more detail during Water Wednesday and will be opened for submissions at the conclusion of the event on April 3.
The Kansas Water Institute offers monthly Water Wednesdays in an effort to facilitate impactful communication between water resource professionals and to disseminate research results. For more information about the Kansas Water Institute or Water Wednesdays, contact water@k-state.edu.
