April 2024 marks 23rd anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Sexual Assault Awareness Month is observed during the month of April to recognize the prevalence and persistence of sexual violence, harassment and abuse within campus communities and on a global scale.
This year's theme, "Building Connected Communities," closely aligns with the goals of the Morrison Family Center for Student Well-being, the new home of sexual and relationship violence prevention, and other campus partners who seek to promote a safe, healthy and inclusive campus community.
The Morrison Family Center for Student Well-being, in partnership with the Center for Advocacy, Response, and Education, or CARE, Office of Institutional Equity, Union Program Council and Prairie Paws Animal Shelter will host a variety of events and activities throughout the month of April in observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
- The "What Were You Wearing?" art installation is open through May 10 in the William T. Kemper Art Gallery in the K-State Student Union. This installation displays clothing worn by real survivors of sexual violence from the K-State community along with their brave and impactful stories. Some of the clothing has been donated by survivors while some has been recreated to the best of the ability of the installation team based on the survivor account.
- On April 17, the annual Denim Day Resource Fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Union courtyard. All members of the campus community are welcome to visit with student-facing offices to learn more about what resources are available to those who are struggling. The THRIVE Navigators will have art expression projects, and you may even get to snuggle with Linc, the therapy dog from Lafene Health Center.
- On April 18, Paws 4 Consent will take place 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Waters Quad. Come visit and snuggle with adoptable dogs and learn about their volunteer opportunities while also collecting some campus resources. A donation box will be available if you would like to donate to the shelter. Acceptable donations include towels, treats, toys, blankets, paper towels, cardboard rolls, collars and leashes.
- On April 24, a free showing of "Barbie" will take place at 7 p.m. in Forum Hall. Come enjoy a night of fun and laughter and an opportunity for connection.
If you would like a digital event flyer, contact Trina Knight at tknight3289@k-state.edu.
