K-State students recognized on Metropolis Future100 students list

Four students from Kansas State University's College of Architecture, Planning & Design, or APDesign, and College of Health and Human Sciences have been honored as 2024 Metropolis Future100 students. The prestigious designation is awarded to the top 100 graduating students from architecture and interior design programs across the United States and Canada.
The recognized students are:
- Henry Hammes from Lenexa, department of interior architecture, and industrial design, College of Architecture, Planning & Design.
- Christa Gorman from Irving, Texas, department of interior architecture, and industrial design, College of Architecture, Planning & Design.
- Libby Couture from Fort Collins, Colorado, department of architecture, College of Architecture, Planning & Design.
- Madison Svoboda from Louisburg, department of interior design and fashion studies, College of Health and Human Science.
The Future100 program is sponsored by architecture and design firms interested in recruiting a talented and diverse pool of candidates. Through a rigorous application process, instructors and mentors nominate students who are then selected from hundreds of applicants by the Metropolis team. These students are recognized for their leadership and dedication to diversity and inclusion alongside their design work.
Michelle Wempe, professor of practice in interior architecture and industrial design, who nominated Hammes, said, "Henry's ability to think critically about a problem, research thoroughly the issues and possible approaches to solving for a problem, and finally, to craft carefully choreographed solutions elegantly and creatively excels at a tremendous level."
"Christa is an intensely creative student who"s thoughtful, often joyful, approach to design demonstrates an investment in the role of the designer as an agent of positive change," said Kendra Kirchmer, assistant professor who nominated Gorman.
Otto Chanyakorn, assistant professor of architecture who nominated Couture, said, "Libby is a talented designer with exceptional design sensibility and a genuinely kind-hearted person."
Svoboda was nominated by Michael Dudek, associate professor of interior design. "Madison is a thoughtful and creative design thinker who demonstrated professional level design skills early on in our program," Dudek said.
This recognition not only celebrates the individual achievements of Hammes, Gorman, Couture and Svoboda but also underscores the excellence of Kansas State University's design programs and the dedication of its professors.
