Brown announced as Mistler Outstanding Blue Key Alumni Award recipient

The Kansas State University chapter of Blue Key Senior Honorary has named Christine "Chrissy" Hathaway Brown as its recipient of the 2024 Richard E. Mistler Outstanding Blue Key Alumni Award for her continued perseverance and achievements of the organization's guiding principles of scholarship, leadership and service.

The Mistler Outstanding Alumni Award was first presented in 2003 to recognize Rich Mistler, 1961-1962 class member, for his dedication and commitment to K-State's Blue Key chapter through his time, experience and expertise. Blue Key recognizes college students at senior institutions of higher education for balanced and all-around excellence in scholarship, leadership and service. Mistler award winners are selected by the current Blue Key class.

Brown is a 1996 graduate of Kansas State University with degrees in education and Spanish. After graduation, she worked several years as a high school Spanish teacher at Shawnee Mission Northwest, Salina South, Salina Central and the Central Kansas Homeschool Cooperative. Throughout her teaching career, she invested deeply in her students as she supported their personal and professional development.

In her community of Salina, she has volunteered in First Covenant Vacation Bible School and the Souper Bowl of Hope Food Drive. She has also worked with outreach teams serving in Ecuador, Argentina and Guatemala. In recent years she has been providing personal assistant services and working as a student life coach. Brown emulates the Blue Key motto, "Serving I Live," every day.

Throughout her career, her primary focus has been in helping students and individuals succeed and develop growth in the academic, character and leadership areas of their lives. She genuinely cares about mentoring and supporting the futures leaders of tomorrow. Brown is a dedicated Blue Key alumnus that focuses on investing in the future of the organization and Kansas State University.

Brown was recognized for modeling a true commitment to service, leadership and scholarship. She has shown consistent dedication and continually invested in the K-State Blue Key chapter. Blue Key recognizes that because of the legacy of outstanding alumni like Brown, the organization continues to thrive.

Previous Mistler award winners include Amy Button Renz, Paul Edgerley, Bernard Franklin, Todd Johnson, Ernie Barrett, John Carlin, Grace Hwang, Lindsey Roy, Dena Bunnel, Katie Niederee and Jackie McClaskey.
