'Getting Started' webinars for incoming graduate students
For the third year, the Graduate School is hosting a "Getting Started in Grad" webinar series for graduate students admitted for the fall 2024 semester. These sessions help guide graduate students through summer to-do tasks and complement the tailored orientation graduate students receive in their academic programs. The webinar series serves to prepare incoming graduate students for the start of their graduate program and also helps build early connections with them.
The "Getting Started in Grad" webinar series kicked off on June 3 with a session on enrollment, billing and making payments. Nearly 80 students attended from locations all around the world. The webinars continue today with a session to provide incoming international students guidance on making their move to the U.S.
In addition to communicating with incoming graduate students about the webinar series, the Graduate School is also directing new graduate students to the checklists and tutorials on our Incoming Graduate Students webpages.
The following is the webinar series schedule:
- June 5 — Making Your Move to the U.S., 9 a.m.
- June 11 — Preparing for Your Assistantship, 1 p.m.
- June 17 — Making Your Move to the U.S., 9 a.m.
Students are encouraged to attend sessions live, if possible, but we know the times will not work for everyone. Recordings of the sessions will be made available on our orientation webpage as soon as possible after each session.
In addition to the summer webinars, the Graduate School and other units will host welcome and orientation sessions in August.
- Aug. 12 — International Student Orientation, 9 a.m., Room 105 of Umberger Hall. Organized by International Student and Scholar Services.
- Aug. 14 — Graduate School Welcome Session. Virtual offering: 9-10:30 a.m.
