Faculty present at Wakonse Fellowship 34th annual conference
Six K-State faculty members are presenting at the Wakonse Fellowship 34th annual Conference on College Teaching May 23-28 at Camp Miniwanca on Lake Michigan. Wakonse means "to teach, to inspire" in Lakota.
The participants from K-State are Adam Key, associate professor in the department of integrated studies at K-State Salina; Steven Locklear, teaching assistant professor in the department of aviation at K-State Salina; Beth Pesnell, teaching assistant professor in the department of curriculum and instruction; Suzanne Porath, associate professor in the department of curriculum and instruction; Vincent Weber, instructor in the department of integrated studies at K-State Salina; and Richard Zajac, professor and graduate faculty in the department of integrated studies at K-State Salina.
The weeklong conference brings together faculty, teaching and learning professionals from postsecondary institutions who are devoted to the inspirational aspect of the teaching and learning process.
Attendees participate in workshop activities exploring teaching and learning through interactive small and large group presentations, discussion groups and hands-on experiential sessions. The conference creates a climate where educators:
- Display and discuss teaching talents.
- Learn about themselves as teachers.
- Consider the tasks and issues of creative teaching.
- Provide meaningful feedback to one another.
Attendees become Wakonse Fellows who support, promote and share the excitement and satisfaction of teaching to inspire others and themselves.
