Update your parking account with new license plate info to avoid a citation
Submitted by Division of Facilities
The state of Kansas has changed the style and format of its license plates, requiring most residents to change to a new plate and tag number. K-State parking permits use a license plate recognition system, so it is important to keep your information updated in the Parking Portal. If you've received a new license plate, you need to update your parking permit information to avoid a citation.
To update your information:
- Log into your Parking Portal account.
- Select the Vehicles tab from the top menu.
- Select Add Vehicle.
The system treats new plates as new vehicles, so you cannot edit your plate number; instead, you must select Register Additional Vehicle. Enter your new license plate and vehicle information, then select Next.
To remove your old plate:
- Select the Vehicles tab from the top menu.
- Select the old plate number.
- Select Edit.
- Go to Plate Type and select No Longer Owned from the drop-down list.
- Select Next.
It will take approximately 24 hours for your information to be updated in your account.
Permit holders are responsible for updating their vehicle and plate information as needed. Citations received as a result of not updating one's tag information are valid and cannot be waived. However, with a valid and active permit, these citations can usually be reduced to $6 each — after updating plate information and contacting K-State Parking Services.
If you have any issues adding a new tag number or removing an old one, please contact the Parking Office between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at 785-532-7275, email parking@k-state.edu or come to the Parking Office in the K-State Parking Garage.
