Navigating conversations and emotions after the election
Submitted by Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
Like every election, tomorrow's election is important for our nation's democracy. Every citizen's participation in this process is a responsibility and contributes to the future of our great country.
As we shared last month, the university's free speech and expressive activity webpage is a resource that is available to you as you navigate this election season.
While we often focus on the passions and emotions leading up to an election, we sometimes forget that election results can also ignite emotions.
Navigating our emotions and supporting others require us to be patient and mindful. As a community, caring for and supporting each other is one of our strengths at K-State.
We want to remind you of a myriad of resources available if needed.
- Reporting Issues or Concerns: A variety of resources are available to you if you wish to report an incident or concern. The Office of Institutional Equity serves as a confidential resource to you.
- Support Resources: If you need to speak with someone to help you work through whatever you are feeling in the days that follow, several offices are dedicated to assisting you. For example, students may consider visiting Lafene Counseling and Psychological Services, and faculty or staff may consider reaching out for help via the Employee Assistance Program.
No matter the outcome of this election season, remember that as a community, we are here for each other. Whether you agree or disagree with the perspectives you encounter, understand that we can all help one another simply by listening and acknowledging each other's emotions. Together, we can navigate this post-election season with grace, civility and support for our fellow Wildcats.
