Shatter the Silence Lunch Hour: A community dialogue on sexual violence
The Center for Advocacy Response and Education is hosting the first monthly Shatter the Silence Lunch Hour from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 6 in 206 Holton Hall.
Sexual violence on college campuses has received a great deal of attention in the national media in the past few months, and K-State would like to provide the community with a consistent avenue to dialogue about the topic.
Shatter the Silence Lunch Hour is named in recognition of the cultural norms that encourage individuals to stay silent about the issues of sexual violence. Kansas State University has — and always will — place the safety of its students as a top priority.
Shatter the Silence Lunch hours are open to any member of the campus community. The lunch hour will provide a safe place for attendees to express views, seek clarification and reflect on the topic of sexual violence on college campuses.
Additional lunch hours for the 2014-2015 academic year will be Nov. 3, Dec. 1, Feb. 2, March 2 and April 6. Anyone who can not attend the lunch hour times but who would like to be involved CARE's efforts, or would like to speak in a confidential setting, is encouraged to contact the center's coordinators at 785-5532-6444.
