Engineering department undergoes name change
The department of computing and information sciences in the College of Engineering at Kansas State University has officially become the department of computer science, effective April 7.
Scott DeLoach, professor and interim head for the department, said the change reflects a trend across institutions of higher learning, where most departments that teach computer science are now called departments of computer science.
"This will make our department name more standard and will also clarify who we are in our recruiting efforts," he said. "Parents and potential students have previously asked us if computing and information sciences was anything like computer science. This will make the answer to that question more obvious."
From a branding standpoint, DeLoach said, "It clarifies what our department is, and simplifies the messaging of who we are and what we do."
