Racing to help: First C. Clyde Run/Fun Run/Walk benefits Shepherd's Crossing, marks 50th anniversary of College of Business Administration
Submitted by Communications & Marketing
Run or walk, it's all for fun and a good cause at the inaugural C. Clyde Run/Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, Sept. 15, a part of Kansas State University's Family Day activities.
The run/fun run/walk is in honor of the 50th anniversary of the university's College of Business Administration -- established in 1962 -- and its first dean, C. Clyde Jones. It also is a fundraiser for Shepherd's Crossing, the ecumenical ministry that offers budget counseling, referrals and financial support to residents in Riley County and St. George.
Now retired, Jones is an active volunteer in the Manhattan area and works closely with Shepherd's Crossing.
The event is open to all, with race routes set throughout the campus: a 1-mile family fun race, a 5K road race and a 10K road race. Individuals of all ages and abilities can participate. It's organized by the College of Business Administration Ambassadors, with assistance from the newly established Young Business Alumni – Circle 62 organization.
Check-in begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 15 on the east lawn of Calvin Hall, which is where all of the races start. The 5K and 10K races begin at 9 a.m., with the fun run at 10:30 a.m. The awards ceremony will be at 11:30 a.m. More information about the race and registration is available at www.cba.k-state.edu/index.aspx?NID=1270.
"In 50 years, my successors, particularly Deans Yar Ebadi and Ali Malekzadeh, have taken the College of Business Administration from newly established to nationally ranked," Jones said. "I am honored to have been a part of this great college's history and to celebrate with a community event. Shepherd's Crossing helps many area families, and I deeply appreciate all the sponsors and participants who are helping them assist our neighbors in need."
Along with the College of Business Administration, race sponsors include: GTM Sportswear, Affordable Pups, Local Food and Friends, Kansas State University Institute for Commercialization, the Jones family, Citizens National Bank, Steel and Pipe Supply, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Commerce Bank, the K-State Libraries, McCain Performance Series, Phil and Margaret Howe, Shepherd's Crossing, Steve and Cathy Lacy, Bill and Marlene Trenkle, Griffith Lumber, Dental Associates, Bayer Construction, Pepsico Manhattan, Varney's, and Walter and Jean Heckelmann.
"We are honored to celebrate 50 years of the College of Business Administration with the first dean, C. Clyde Jones," said Ali Malekzadeh, Edgerley family dean of the college. "I am thrilled that so many friends and partners are supporting us and Shepherd's Crossing by sponsoring this event and participating in the run."
