The art and science of teaching: Lecture by distinguished undergraduate professor from North Carolina State University
Submitted by Cathie Lavis, Associate Professor
On Thursday, Sept. 20, the Faculty Exchange for Teaching Excellence, supported by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, will host a presentation by Bryce Lane titled “The Art and Science of Teaching.”
Lane is a distinguished undergraduate professor at North Carolina State University and triple recipient of the North Carolina State Outstanding Teacher Award. He is a dynamic speaker who hosts the Emmy-winning show “In the Garden with Bryce Lane” on UNC TV.
In his presentation, Lane will talk about teaching as a craft: a recipe of principles, skills and creativity that allows teachers to create a positive environment for learning. He will discuss how to improve and excel as teachers who inform, inspire and excite. Lane believes great teaching is a dynamic interaction that involves transforming knowledge into student understanding. The presentation will be in the K-State Student Union's Little Theatre from 3-4 p.m.
