'Philoctetes' performance dates Sept 26-29, cast announced

Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

The K-State Theatre program will present "Philoctetes" by Sophocles, adapted by Bryan Doerries, Sept. 26-29.

The following K-State students have been cast for the performance:

Adam Blodgett, Odysseus; Jay Garrison, Neoptolemus; Audrey Etgen, Ian Naughton, Nicholas Shapiro and Steven Welch, chorus; Eleanor Nesimoglu, Philoctetes; Dominic Moore, Captain; and TBD, Heracles.

Daphne Crews will serve as stage manager.

The drama is centered on the title character, who was abandoned on the island of Lemnos by the Greeks on their way to Troy, after a snakebite to his foot made his company unbearable; 10 years later, Odysseus and Neoptolemus have come to return him to the army, since both he and his bow — originally the weapon of the mighty Heracles — are needed for the conquest of Troy. Under Odysseus's instructions, Neoptolemus falsely tells Philoctetes that he would like to bring him to his home; the deceit is working, but Neoptolemus cannot in the end go through with it, and he reveals the truth to the enraged Philoctetes.
