Beach Museum of Art curator speaks at opening of Gordon Parks exhibition

Submitted by Jui Mhatre

Aileen June Wang, curator at the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, will deliver a keynote presentation from 4-5 p.m. on Sept. 6 at Syracuse University Art Museum to celebrate the opening of the exhibition "Homeward to the Prairie I Come: Gordon Parks Photographs from the Beach Museum of Art, Kansas State University."

Wang and Sarah Price, collections manager, co-curated the 2021 exhibition that originated from the Beach Museum of Art. At Syracuse, Wang will discuss how Parks selected photographs from his various LIFE Magazine assignments to show the ways in which African Americans banded together to cope with and fight against racial prejudice and discrimination. Also on the same day, Wang will conduct a workshop with Syracuse University Art Museum staff Kate Holohan to help local educators explore ways to use the exhibition in teaching.
