Sources of support
Support can come in different forms. Informal support can be part of a natural network (neighbors, friends, and strangers) or an arranged network that relies on volunteers like the Red Cross or Salvation Army. Those in the informal support network provide support voluntarily.

The same is true for formal support. Formal support involves those who have established role that involves an obligation to provide support that may extend over time. Natural formal support networks include parents and others who have the responsibility for care in the family. Arranged formal support networks include therapists and social service professionals. Those in the formal support network provide support because it is an obligatory part of the relationship.
