Helping is a critical resource that enables a person in crisis to move through a series of passages or phases (in A Course on Helping: Threshold, Stabilize, Mobilize, and Transform). Natural support networks include families, friends, neighbors, and even strangers. DearNeighbors is a proposed program that will prepare members of the natural support network in a community to provide effective support for someone experiencing heartbreak or fear. Our goal is to serve as a catalyst to strengthen the ability of families to emerge from crisis with the capacity to respond to and manage crises.
